Maritime Adventure - Part Ten

We arrived back in Halifax so late on Saturday night that we chose to just stay in, watch some tube and take it easy.
Sunday morning we had a good sleep in, some free lunch at the Mess, then decided to head downtown to check out the Busker Festival that was going on. We decided to keep the rental car one extra day so that we wouldn't be paying for cabs and so we could maybe hit a movie or something. DBF had to go back to class on Monday so this was his last official vacation day.

The waterfront was crazy busy, but we did find parking not too far off so that was cool. It was beautiful and sunny, so a good day for just wandering around the boardwalk. The Halifax International Busker Festival was going on, so we were hoping for some good music and free entertainment.

Turns out most of the buskers were more like performance artists. Still cool, but not the musicians we were expecting. There were several magician/illusionist artists, a couple of sorta circus act types, a guy with a big snake, some hip-hop dancers, and a dude that drummed on buckets. We spent a bit of time watching that guy, Peter Rabbit, but the crowd was huge and it was hard to see. Also, he spent a whole lotta time talking and pissing around, and not so much time actually drumming.

Instead we decided to check out The Family Freakout Show...which billed itself as a one-man "visual display of human energy..."... plus he was holding fire in his brochure picture. He turned out to be somewhat interesting to watch, with his slight of hand, etc... but nothing to "freak out" about. He wasn't even allowed to do his fire-eating trick because he was performing on a historic wooden dock area. Instead he swallowed one of those freak long balloon-animal balloons.

I finally decided to try a Beaver Tail this day as well. It seemed like another one of those things that a tourist should try while at the Halifax waterfront. It's basically a big piece of fried dough with toppings...but it was super yummy. I tried the original Killaloe Sunrise...with cinnamon, sugar and fresh lemon juice. Sooooooo good! but it was massive!!

Back at the hotel, DBF grabbed us some free dinner from the Mess (yaaaieee for salad bar) while we relaxed before heading out to the movie. We decided on The Simpsons Movie just for fun, and it turned out to be great. Lotsa laughs and only 90 minutes long so my bum didn't hurt when we left the theatre. :)

After the movie, DBF had to shave off his vacation beard. So sad! I didn't realize how much I would miss it when it was gone. Who knew that it turns out I like a man with a beard!! And DBF was just so relaxed with it.... it was tough for him to have to let it go. But for fun, he left on the moustache (because for some reason the military says it's OK to have a moustache) and as predicted he looked like a gay porn star. It took some coaxing from Shooby but he left it on for their return to class on Monday.

Seriously priceless!!
