Maritime Adventure - Part Five

Finally, Tuesday, off to Prince Edward Island!

(Shhh.....I think there may have been a McD's pitstop, but you didn't hear that here!)

Mostly it's just freeway, etc to the New Brunswick border, but it's still pretty and I enjoy being a roadtrip passenger. Honey likes to drive, but we had the gutless Pontiac G5 as our rental, so I did feel bad for him. LOL.
We decided to take the Confederation Bridge over to PEI since we've both seen our fair share of ferries and are pretty sure the one here wouldn't be much different than home. Oh, and DBF works on the water so he tends to not want to be on it during his vacation time. We heard fun stuff about the big bridge so it just seemed to be the thing to do. 13km long!!! How cool is that?!! And what a great view of the red beaches of PEI as you are driving over.

They've done a great job with a very touristy friendly Gateway Village with a Visitor Center and lots of shops, etc as soon as you get off the bridge. Whoever was in charge of this, knew what they were doing.

Our first stop was Charlottetown. We went straight for the downtown area, found a hotel, and set out to wander around. Shooby had told us about a great little micro-brewery that offered a fun tour so we tracked that down so we would know where to go later, then just meandered around seeing what the town had to offer. Let me tell you, it's a small town, not a ton going on, but we loved how cute, quiant and lovely it was. We stopped for a cold beer at The Olde Dublin Pub. Province House was cool and there were a couple of big old churches to take pictures of. We checked out the local theatre but decided to skip a show for the time being.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the local brewhouse, The Gahan House. Less than 8 bucks each, we got a couple of mugs of their favorite beers, a tour of the facility and a history lesson from a fun guide. After the tour, we decided to pop in to the new restaurant next door, Sims Corner, for surf & turf. By now, the catch phrase coming out of DBF's mouth every 20 minutes was "I want scallops! and lobster!!" so when we saw the special board offering lobster tail, I knew we wouldn't make it past the place. It was super yummy!!!

After dinner, we took some time to get cleaned up at the hotel then headed back down to Victoria Row, a short cobblestone pedestrian road with shops and restaurants and a live jazz band. We enjoyed a beer on one of the restaurant patios while listening to the music and just enjoying the night air. After a while I had a craving for dessert so we took a stroll over to the local Cows Ice Cream (they are almost as common as Timmy's out here!!) for a waffle cone and a wander back to the hotel.

Not a party town by any means, but a quaint place to visit. If we didn't live so far away it's a place I would definitely spend more time!!

mmm scallops & lobster! :)

PEI is fun, are you planning on checking out the rest of the Island or staying in Charlottetown?

Summerside is really pretty and you gotta hit up the Boardwalk in Cavendish and of course Green Gables!! (If you're touring the whole Island)

Your vacation sounds like a blast so far!
