Just a brief update to let you know what's up....
VW determined that the serpentine belt was indeed the problem. It was a problem because it was MISSING! Yup, a bracket and tensioner were installed incorrectly...so there was nothing to keep the damn belt from slipping off.
So, yes, I called the previous shop and explained the situation. Of course they wanted the car brought to them so they could check it out...but ya, since it was undriveable I told them that wasn't going to happen. He was quite polite but kept reiterating that I should have had the car towed to them. Uh, dude, you are closed on Friday evenings and all weekend!!! So not my problem. And now that VW has already done the diagnosis I think I'll just let them fix it all up for me.
Anywho, I'll be motoring on in to the idiots tomorrow to go over the bills that they need to reimburse me for. $60+ for the tow and another $140+ for the fixing up of their stupid mistake.
