Rocky Horror Picture Show - Time Warp

My all time favorite party dance! and favorite movie to watch after handing out candy to the kiddies!

CarnEvil

Last night, Mikey, Angela and I went to Galey Farms "CarnEvil". It was cold, dark and spooky!

We started out by wandering through the corn maze, which is pretty scary on it's own. It's dark out there!!! Although, we didn't take any crazy turns or try to get lost...it was easy to navigate. Super funny to hear other people hiding out and scaring the pants off their friends though. They even have a mini haunted old town to check out, which includes the disco "Club Dead" with a werewolf DJ playing Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

After that we rode the train around the property. Now our hands were warmer, but our bums got numb. It's about a 15 minute journey....through their quite realistic old cowboy town, past the spooky graveyard and giant pirate ship, and past A LOT of cool jack-o-lanterns along the way. I think the scariest part was the nazi-conductor....when she gave the rules she sounded like a mean old school teacher. KEEP YER LIMBS IN THE TRAIN!!!

Then we headed for the big top!!! We worked ourselves up for it while standing in line. The group of girls in front of us had started screaming before they even went in the door....and kept it up once inside. We of course made Mikey go first, so Angela hugged on to him and I came close behind holding her hood. We shuffled through together, going slowly around corners and laughing at ourselves waiting for something to jump out at us. They have tons of great vignettes (how do you spell that?!!) that they've put together over the years....most with automated characters of some sort that jump or bounce or vibrate for realism. Of course, they have real people in there too....jumping out from behind dark corners or fake wall panels to scare the bejezus out of you....and others hiding in the rafters to spray you with "blood" and other creepy stuff. And lots of loud clangs, bangs, screams and noises. I learned that I laugh my ass off when presented with this kind of fear....you know, the kind of fear where you're not really totally scared and you know something is going to happen but when it does you still just about jump out of your skin! I think Angela said it best at the end.....that her ribs hurt from holding her breath the whole time. I didn't realize it, but I had done the same thing!

All in all, totally worth the $20. Boo!

Happy Anniversary to us!

I just realized that I missed our one-year living together anniversary!!

If memory serves, I moved in here on October 25th last year. DBF has been away so much, I almost forgot!! Funny how time drags when I'm waiting for something good....like him coming home....but it just whizzes by when it's something like a move. I can't believe it's been a year already!

I knew it was coming up because we filed our common-law papers with the military so I am his "official" spouse....but I missed the actual anniversary.

Oh well, yet another thing to celebrate when DBF gets home next week!!!

"Starry Night"

In an effort to keep myself from killing the dog or eating the rest of the Halloween chocolate I decided to expend some of my extra energy and carve up a second pumpkin. I mean, it was sitting here all sad and uncarved so it seemed the only logical thing to do. Can't have a plain old pumpkin sitting here when I could have myself a cute little starry night jack-o-lantern instead!

Mojo the Great (Not!)

Seriously, they should give this dog the K-9 version of a Chris Angel show. He knows doggy slight-of-hand...or more likely slight-of-paw....or maybe slight-of-snout. I could be his manager and at least earn some money for having to put up with his mysterious and annoying behaviour.

Yes folks, he dragged garbage all over the kitchen and living room again. And yes, again there were coffee grounds in there....and yes, those are all over the f**king place again. Oh joy.

However, the doggy-mastermind that he is....he managed to do this without getting the cupboard open all the way. He somehow bypassed my cupboard lock (ie: the leash I use to secure the cupboards together) to make his mess. My only guess is that he wedged a paw in there and then contorted his snout like some sort of gymnast doggy to drag the nastiness out.

Too bad it wasn't actually just an illusion...unfortunately his magic is all too real.

"Devil Kitty"

Before you ask, yes I did this myself. I stole the concept from an online jack-o-lantern idea, but I drew it freehand and carved it all by my little self. :) Quite proud of it if I do say so myself. Can't wait to pile Autumn leaves around it on the front stoop for the little trick-or-treaters on Wednesday!

Let the countdown begin!

According to the most recent rumour, DBF will be home in 10 days!!!! Wooooohoooooooo!!

Of course, this is unconfirmed and unofficial, but I'm going with it until someone tells me different. He's off to sea for 5 days starting tomorrow, then they'll have the weekend to relax and Monday to do their out-routines....so, feasibly they should all be on a plane home on Tuesday.

Cross your fingers and toes!!

Murphy's Law would have it though that I'm going to Las Vegas next Wednesday for work. One trip all year and it has to be now!! Geesh! But I'm only gone for 2 1/2 days....which normally would be lame for a Vegas trip but works in my favour this time....so I guess after 6 months apart we can handle those couple of days....but it still SUCKS.

What would really blow is if they didn't get them flown home until the Wednesday or Thursday and I wasn't here when he gets here. That would be LAME. But we're not gonna worry about that yet.....

Kitty Update

I saw Fergus the poor shaved kitty with my own eyes this weekend, and although I still think it's wierd, he is very cute...and seems quite happy with his new hairdo. Bonus for the boy because he is allowed on the couch now that he doesn't have any fur to shed. So I guess all is not lost! ;)

Look what my Mother did to her cat!

Poor kitty!! I know it was for his own good....helps to keep his fur less matted, etc...but look at how silly he looks now! And just in time for Winter, Mom takes away his fur coat. Booooooo!!

Tough Girl Kicks Ass!

First, let me just qualify this by saying that the kickboxing I do would never prepare me for an actual professional fight. We get belts, but we aren't on a track to a real black belt or anything. We bust our asses and try to get the technique right and I'm definitely in immensely better shape than I was before, but I could never do what Sarah does.

This is our instructor. She's badass. Although you'd never know it, cuz she's fun and quirky and actually sort of quiet in class. :) But apparently she kicks ass because she has a 6-0 record. All the other girls are afraid of her now.

Sarah Kaufman (in blue)

In her most recent fight in Calgary she won the title of Women’s Bantamweight Champ. Go Sarah!

Here's what Mixed Martial Arts Ring Report had to say:

"In the fight of the night Victoria native Sarah Kaufman won the vacant women’s bantamweight belt in impressive style dominating almost all of the fight on route to a second round stoppage over the overmatched but game Marquez. Kaufman started off throwing hard punches and Marquez obliged in the early goings but as Kaufman started to catch her with more and more shots Marquez eventually switched to shooting in for the takedown. Kaufman’s takedown defense proved to be up to the challenge and then some, stuffing multiple attempts and taking the top position when it went to the mat.

Marquez showed incredible heart, despite eating salvo after salvo of hard punches from side control and eventually mount and the blood pouring out of her face showed it. Marquez gave no quarter getting to the top position off of reversals but the end came in the second round when the referee stepped in to stop the contest with Kaufman landing blow after blow with the Josh Barnett cornered Marquez unable to defend herself at 3:22 of the second Stanza."

Mrs. Furious

OMG. I just found this chick through a comment on Eurydice's blog. She's hysterical.

Check out Mrs. Furious!!

If her blogs don't make you laugh out loud, I'd be surprised. If they don't, then at least read how she tags her write-ups. Friggin awesome!

Autumn walk

Amazing! The sun came out and stayed out for the whole day today. Finally I had my chance to take the doggy for our lunchtime walk. Between me being sick and then the schizophrenic weather we've been having I have not been getting much sun time and the dog has been seriously bored. Didn't have time for an extended walk today, but it was super enjoyable to get out into the crisp air and enjoy the Autumn colors.

Duh

I couldn't find my recycling bin when I got home last night. It was at the end of the driveway when I left. I just assumed my neighbor grabbed it by accident or something. I found it today.

Amazing TV

Yaaaaieeeeee!!!

Sunday, November 4th marks the return of The Amazing Race.
My absolute favorite show.
Can't wait for more details!

Domestic Therapy

Yesterday I woke up in a grumpy mood. Not really even grumpy, just blue. I was fine when I went to bed on Saturday, but the instant I was up on Sunday I just knew it was one of those days.

I'm frustrated about our pending move for sure. DBF has been looking at neighborhoods and houses and I feel left out. I wanna be a part of it too. What happens if he falls in love with some place and I hate it when I see it? I don't want to be the bad guy....but buying a house is a big deal. He's just trying to see what is out there and figure out good neighborhoods and such so that when we do our househunting trip we'll be ahead of the game...I know that. But I still feel like an outsider because he's so far away and I'm stuck here unable to do anything. Surfing MLS was only fun for about 24 hours.

I know my time will come. In fact, once the ball starts actually rolling we probably won't be able to get away from it. Things are going to happen very quickly and all my whining about not being involved will turn to whining about having too much to do and not enough time to do it.

All this logic didn't stop me from feeling blue or missing DBF yesterday. I guess it's because the end of his training is near and he'll be home soon. I think my brain finally just decided it had enough of being the tough girl that gets along fine without her boy....it's happy to admit that I just want him home. Now dammit!

I was restless after dinner and sick of sitting here getting increasingly frustrated, so I decided it might be a good time to tackle the giant mess of a basement. I've been planning to organize down there all Summer, but put it off. Well I don't know why I procrastinated so long...it only took about an hour and looks about a zillion times better. Now all of the Xmas decoration are together, the camping gear has it's own area, and there's a GIANT pile of stuff to sort for sale, donation or trash. I think the Salvation Army is gonna get a good haul from us. No sense in trying to sell much of it and I don't think we need to drag any of that crap to Halifax with us.

I'm so domestic. It's sick really. I felt about a zillion times better just cleaning the basement. The blue, frustrated feeling I had all day long went away after just one hour of cleaning and organization. Why didn't I think to do that sooner?!!

Man, am I in the wrong blog business!

I've mentioned before about "Because I Said So", a blog written by a mother of six with an incredibly good sense of humor and personable writing skill. I discovered her the same way most people have....when she made the news because of a hilarious eBay posting she had. The link was passed around like crazy for a few days while she was trying to offload some Pokemon cards that her kids snuck into her shopping cart.

The posting was so popular, her email box was full several times a day. People wanted to know if she had a blog...she did...and once she told people about it, her traffic took off like mad. Overnight, she went from 5-10 visitors a day to the thousands. Somewhere in the vicinity of 20-30,000 hits A DAY!

The reason for my post is because I just watched a news blurb that was aired about her on ABC. It was just a little feel-good piece about how mommy blogs have really taken off. Most of the info I already knew just from reading her blog every couple of days. But there was one thing I was surprised to hear....

Dawn makes approximately $4000 a month via the advertising on her blog!!! Holy buttload of cash Batman. Sign me up. Where do I go to get this? How do I attract 20,000 people to my blog? Apparently not by blathering on about my life waiting for DBF to return.... Maybe I need to make up some stories about having six kids and washing diapers and finding petrified hot dogs in peculiar places.

I mean, damn, there are a bazillion upstart internet businesses out there that would kill for that kind of traffic. Apparently mommy blogs are the new eBay.

Dream House

It seems to me that if you want one thing, you might have to give up another thing. The interior pics of that dream house went up today...and the kitchen sucks. It's modern and nice, but it's tiny. Not OK. Counter space is a must for me...I like to cook.

Having said that, all of the other houses I've seen online that have decent sized, modern kitchens don't seem to have rec rooms. We have our hearts set on a rec room because A) it would be nice for DBF to have a better space for his guitars and such, B) I like the idea of a nice living room free from doggy hair and such....he can live it up in the rec room.

It's still early!! It'll work out!

Weekly Video - Tool Schism

In honor of the concerts tickets I could not get today, I thought I'd post a video by one of DBF's favorite bands. Apparently everyone else in Victoria thought getting Tool tickets was a good idea too cuz it sold out in under half an hour. I didn't stand a chance!!!

House Hunting Begins....

...without me!!! booooooo!

Nah, we had decided that since DBF is actually in Halifax still it would be a good idea if he got one or two of his local friends to show him around the good neighborhoods. We don't want to get out there on our official house hunting trip and not know where we want to live. I mean, we know that the area around the base isn't too lovely, but other than that we don't have a clue.

After a bit of searching around on MLS we both figured out where the houses in our price range are. OK, well actually, lots of them are on the Dartmouth side, but we agreed to try to search on the Halifax side first unless something uber-spectacular presents itself over the bridges.

Anywho, we noticed Beechwood and Timberlea come up a lot in the searches so DBF asked his buddy and found out that sure enough both of those are good little residential suburbs....ie: close to the big shopping areas and Starbucks and such...and not toooo far from downtown or other necessary places. So the buddy offered to take him for a drive around the areas. Nice!

So off they went yesterday afternoon, armed with a few addresses of houses we liked on MLS. One in particular we were intrigued by because it had great cute curb appeal in the picture, but there were no interior shots. That usually means that there's something up, but DBF had a gut feel and wanted to check it out.

When they found it, wouldn't you know it, but the real estate agent was actually there taking the interior shots. LOL. So they got to talking and the agent gave him the tour. Turns out that it's basically the most perfect house ever! It's the right age, the right size, has a fenced yard, the interior is modern enough, nice kitchen, good floors, rec room, you name it. The price is right, plus they are motivated to sell so the price could probably get better.

Murphy's Law that this was more of a fact-finding mission and he happened upon the dream house. Seeings as we don't even know when exactly we'll be going, we haven't got our mortgage sorted yet, etc it's sort of hard to say "hey do you think you could hold this place for us until we get our shit together?"!!

Anywho, in a perfect world our shit will be together shortly and maybe that place will still be there. Or if it's not there, maybe it will turn out to be built over the gates of Hell or something so it will be better if we don't get it. Or maybe taking longer to get our shit together will mean a later posting date and Christmas here at home....which is what we really want anyway....there will always be another house. Maybe the better dream house. You just never know!

Welcome to Storm Season

Holy freaking windstorm, Batman!

I had a restless sleep last night. I kept dreaming that someone was breaking in to the house. There was weird creaking noises and occassional thumping and banging. The odd "thwack" and "crash" too. I dozed in and out all morning....figured I had just been thinking about Halloween too much or something.

Then a loud "bang" right as my alarm went off clued me in to the fact that I wasn't dreaming, there was something smashing around in the back yard. I dragged my tired ass out of bed, and sure enough....windstorm. Duh.

Looking out the bedroom window I couldn't see anything blowing around so couldn't figure out what was making all the racket. Then I wandered through the kitchen, only to see a big piece of gutter or flashing or whatever it is hanging off the back overhang. Hmmm....pretty sure that's not good. Then I went to look out the living room windows and sure enough there are about 8-10 pieces of the soffet laying on the back walk. OK, that's definitely not good.

The banging was the wind blowing the flashing into the siding every once in a while....plus pieces of the soffets are getting caught in the gusts and pushing up against the windows and siding as well.

Glad it's a rental! I've left housing a message and now it's their problem. WooT!

Oh, and there's a big piece of flashing in the front yard too, but I've looked around out there and can't figure out where it came from. Maybe it's from someone else's house....

Apple Announcement

Apple Inc. announced today that it has developed a breast implant that can store and play music. The iTit will cost $499 or $599 depending on cup size.

This has been hailed as a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

This arrived on a good day. I needed something stupid to giggle at. :)

Another big bomb...

Ugh, so this is the not-fun part we were afraid of. The wait and see when the posting date is game. DBF asked today what the instructor thought would happen and he said he figures that they'll want him there BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Shut up! He's not even coming home from the course until at least the first week of November, more likely the second week...so they figure that they can get us there in like 5 weeks. Say what?!!

Apparently they don't consider things like the spouse's job, or the househunting, or just the time they are supposed to allow for us to get there. If I only offer my boss 4 weeks notice, he may not let me keep my job. Argh! And we want the driving time. If you drive out, they give like 12 days for it...so we'd have time to visit his son in Winnipeg and my brother in Montreal. Sounds like they are planning to just make everyone fly out. Lame! Not to mention that buying a house would be pretty difficult...closing times in Halifax are sometimes a couple of months, so I highly doubt we're gonna close a good one in like 3 weeks.

But I am getting ahead of myself. Nothing is confirmed. However, everything else that was rumoured up until this point came true...so I figure this is probably how it will go down.

My positive attitude just got a little rained on so I'm gonna sit here and grump for a while. Bastards wanna make me miss Christmas with my family....we're gonna have a few things to say about that!

The Bomb has been Dropped!

I haven't posted much about this, if anything really, because it was a "wait and see" game for a couple of months. Well, yesterday the bomb dropped. DBF called...with good news and bad news.

Honestly, when he said that, I thought "oh yaiieeee....Good News!!" Mmmhmmmm. So I asked for the good news first....to which he replied...."well hon, the good news is that we will be together". I think my heart stopped. Because I knew that was just a calm way of saying that the bad news is that we will be in Halifax. Gasp.

Yup kids, that's right. Darling boyfriend got his posting orders yesterday, and just as he had been told months ago, only one of the five people on his course got posted to the West Coast. The other four of them have been transferred to the lovely East Coast. No specific dates just yet, but we're guessing first thing in the New Year.

I was unexpectedly overwhelmed. I thought that I had come to terms with this in my mind, but turns out that I had actually convinced myself that this wouldn't happen. I guess I honestly thought that all the what-ifs we had been dealt would work themselves out in our favour. Hmmmm...guess not. DBF was actually more at ease about it all, and he was the one that was seriously pissed about this possibility. Turns out he was more worried for me...he's not from here...I am.

We talked for a long time....mainly about what information we'll need and about the positives to this move. Like the fact that real estate is considerably cheaper in the Halifax area, so we'll likely finally be able to own a home. We will be closer to places we've wanted to visit...specifically New York City, but also Montreal, Boston, and even flights to Europe will likely be cheaper. For him jobwise, the ship he has been posted to will be the first ship to bring on the new military helicopters, so he will get to do the inaugural work with that, and that's got to be pretty friggin cool!

The scary negative is that I may not be able to keep my job...which would suck...but I'll find another one...just probably not a skookum work-from-home-in-my-yoga-pants one. Other obvious negatives are leaving my Mom, missing my friends, and the fact that the Maritimes actually get Winter! I guess I'll have to shop for boots though...haha, silver lining and all that!

Lots to consider, but after the initial shock I've decided to look at it as an adventure. At least I visited there this summer and know that Halifax is a pretty cool city and we have a few friends there to help with the transition. We're in another "wait and see" holding pattern for the specific timeline so that's a little frustrating...if it's not one thing it's another.

All I know for sure is that I"ll be decorating up a fantastic guest room, and everyone better come visit! You all need to see Peggy's Cove...you know it! and now you'll have no excuses right!!! :)

New Neighbors

Two of the houses on our street have been empty for a couple of months now. Funny, because apparently there is a HUGE waiting list for military housing. I guess folks are holding out for the more convenient locations. Our neighborhood is a long commute and a bit isolated, so I can imagine that doesn't appeal to some people.

A month or so ago I chatted with a couple of families that were out here looking around because the men had just finished basic training and were being transferred out here. They seemed pretty interested and asked a lot of questions about the area. I figured when they didn't show up a couple of weeks ago, that they had decided the boonies weren't for them.

But low and behold, at 9am this morning, two massive moving trucks showed up. One for each empty house. Looks like our little street is fully inhabited again!

Of course, our neighbors are moving out for month end.....

TASTiSKANK: The Sex Song

For those of you that don't read Duv's blog (although you really should!) and haven't seen this yet. My Mom found this and for the first time in ages we agreed that something is friggin hilarious. Good job Mom!!!

Weekly Video - William Tell Overture for Moms

Obviously I'm not a mother yet...however I am pretty sure that I will save this video for such a time that I am. I can only sympathize with all the Moms out there that go through this on a daily basis. This woman must have a slew of Mom fans out there!

Why should I have to...

...pick up the garbage all over my driveway?!!!!

I have half a mind to call the garbage company and rat out whichever stupid-ass driver didn't take my garbage on Tuesday. Bastard.

We only get pick up every two weeks out here in the boonies. Fine, except I missed the last one because they come at the crack of dawn. If I don't put it out the night before, I always miss it.

So this week I had two cans....totally allowed (some neighbors with kids have three every time). Our second can doesn't have a lid, so I flipped a recycling bin over the top of it to keep the raccoons out. Well I guess the lazy bugger that picks up our trash didn't bother to look under the blue bin....just assumed it was recycling under there and didn't take it.

Of course, I didn't realize this because I've been sick and haven't brought the cans in because I haven't left the house since Monday. Now I just looked out the window and there's garbage all over our driveway!! Because they didn't take the garbage I guess the raccoons finally came out for it.

Nice. Not.

Stupid virus!

Well I guess it's not strep. My doctor never called yesterday, and with her no news is good news. She only calls if the results are positive or if I need a prescription or something. So on the one hand, it's good it's not strep. But on the other hand, what the hell is it?!!

Some sort of virus I picked up off a doorknob probably. Meh.

At least I'm not in pain. More of an annoying swollen feeling in my throat. It's killed my tastebuds, but not my appetite. It is more like when you have a cold and want to eat everything in site. Talk about carb cravings! Of course, nothing satisfies the cravings because I can't actually taste anything. And I'm feeling pretty lethargic, which is also annoying because there has been beautiful fall weather all week and I want to walk the dog, but my aching arms and back say otherwise.

This is just ridiculous! Booooo!

OK, rant over. For now.

**edit: So my doc just called and it is strep again after all. But she thinks that this time my body is just a carrier since it's not really getting any worse and I'm not in pain. She's recommending that I just tough it out and see if my body fights it off on it's own. If I keep taking penicillin my system is just going to become resilient to it and it won't work anyway. Meh.

Project Firebird Update

DBF's car project is officially underway. The boys doing the body work were nice enough to take some pictures for us now that they've started tearing the old bird apart. Man, it's tough to believe that this will one day be a drivable machine again! It's been a long time coming though, so DBF is getting pretty excited.

For those of you that missed it, the original post about the car's history is here.

Not again!

If this is strep throat trying to infiltrate my body again, I am sooooo not impressed. Grrrrrrr.

Garden treat!

Amazingly, my tomato plants are still producing! In fact, I've gotten more off them in the last couple of weeks than I did all Summer. Apparently because they are heirloom plants they take much longer to get going. I thought because of this that I might have missed the boat and the fruit that was produced might not ripen. To top it off, once the weather got crappy around here I totally lost interest in my plants and garden and have paid basically no attention to anything out there at all. But a few days ago I noticed some of the tomatoes were turning color so I picked them and let them ripen on the counter. Sure enough, they turned out just fine!

I had one of each today with my lunch. One is a striped green type, the other is orange. Both are quite acidic and didn't grow as big as I had expected, but both were very yummy!

Creature Comfort

Yes, I'm supposed to be working....but since it's technically a holiday I'm having a little trouble staying on task today. Not that I have any holiday plans, but still. Just knowing all of you are out there having fun while I'm here slaving away at my computer is making motivation a tiny bit hard to come by.

Hence, I shall tell you how Mojo got himself a comfy new doggie bed! :)

He already has one beside the bed for comfy night-time sleeping...but lately I've noticed that he will trot on in there and sleep during the day too. I'm guessing that the hardwood floors in the living room don't live up to his comfort expectations, and since I have put my foot down on the whole "sleeping on the couch when Mommy isn't looking" situation he doesn't have much choice.

So I thought it would be nice to get him a second bed for the living room. Cuz I'm nice like that!

Well posting the tickets here did no good, but adding a line to my Facebook status sold them within a couple of hours. :)

Canucks Tickets for Sale

So most of you probably read my rant about Ticketmaster a couple of weeks ago....the one where I was trying to get Canucks tickets but the website wouldn't let me in. Well, after 45 minutes of trying I was finally able to get access, but the games I wanted were already sold out of course. So I kept trying and eventually got tickets to a Blue Jackets game in February.

Shortly after that though, a very good friend offered me up tickets to a couple of other games....actually my first and second choices....so I've accepted those and am looking to sell my Blue Jackets tickets.
I will put them up on Craiglist or Facebook Marketplace...but thought I'd offer them up to you all first. I am not looking to make a profit or anything, so basically the first person who calls them, gets them. :)

Resident Evil Extinction Theatrical Trailer

And here's the trailer I was actually looking for.

I got talked into seeing this movie tonight...and contrary to what I thought, it was actually pretty good. Good action, decent suspense, and I jumped outta my skin a few times.

And holy christ, I wanna be Alice! That bitch is so cool!!

Of course, they left it open for another sequel... Milla Jovavich is a one trick pony so she's gotta keep this ride going. ;)

Weekly Video - Resident Evil Numa

OK, I'm not totally sure what this all about...but while I was looking for the new Resident Evil - Extinction trailer to post, I found this odd thing. The song is annoying catchy and I believe it took me a month to get it out of my head when it was previously popular. Now it's back in there. If it happens to any of you, I apologize profusely in advance.

And does anyone see Alice anywhere in this thing?

Blog-keeping

Don't worry! I didn't delete all of you from my daily reading!! I just did a little blog housekeeping.

Since I'm trying to keep my food, health, excercise, Weight Watchers stuff on it's own blog now (Health Habits - the good, the bad, AND the ugly) I figured I should move all of your lovely inspirational links over there where they belong!

You are all my daily inspiration...and sometimes my daily sanity...and I just want you all to know how much I appreciate your writing. Keep it up ladies!!

But don't forget to check in on BOTH of my blogs!! Gotta keep those numbers up!!
(yaya, I know it's a lot to ask, but you know you are looking for any excuse to surf around instead of work....so really I'm just very helpful!)

TV Review - Pushing Daisies

Finally! The show I've been waiting for!! Pushing Daisies was the one new show of the season I read enough reviews of to know I was going to like. From the creators of Dead Like Me...how could I not love it?!

I had read that the premiere episode (called "Pie-lette"...how appropriate!) was filmed by a special director (who's name escapes me) and it was described as absolutely beautiful television. It did not disappoint! Almost a cartoon-like wonder to the scenery and sets, bright colors, tangible textures and fantastic cinematography leading to the feel that the show had just popped right off the pages of a children's book. Like a Dr. Suess book for adults! Interesting camera angles really added to the quirkyness of the cast....I hope that wasn't just for this first episode.

The kitchy characters all captured my attention in one way or another. Our main hero, Ned, who holds the entire basis for the show in his hands...almost literally...is endearing to say the least. With his odd gift of returning life to the dead (whether it's withered fruit for his famous pies or the love of his life) he has become wary of becoming close to anyone. Charlotte (Ned remembers her fondly as Chuck), Ned's first kiss (the forementioned love of his life) who he brings back to life to ask about her murderer but can't bear to send back to the afterlife, is as tiny as Ned is tall (I heart tall men!!) and carries a spark of mischief in her glossy eyes.

These two are supported by a cast of odd (to say the least) supporting characters....Emerson, the PI Ned works with solving murders....Olive, the upbeat waitress carrying a torch for Ned....Chuck's two recluse aunts, probably the strangest of them all.

While the show is totally different than anything we've seen on TV in a while, I think it's just what is needed. A breath of fresh, intelligent, funny air that we've all been waiting for. (Now cross your fingers I'm not the only one that thinks this....it's critically aclaimed so I'm sure that means it will get cancelled. Nooooooo!)

And how can you not love that his shop is called The Pie Hole!?

Operation Office commences...

What's better than one girl with power tools? TWO girls with power tools!!!

Now that Summer fun has come to an end I realized that I needed to get back to the To-Do list I had started way back when DBF first left. Can't have him come home and wonder what I did the whole time he was gone. You know, aside from look after the dog, keep the house clean, assemble furniture, mow the lawn, plant a garden, etc. :)

The office has been a project I've been dying to get done for ages now. I mean, I work in here every day and although I got a little rearranging done months ago the work stopped there. All of my office crap is piled on the floor because I was waiting to put up some shelving. Don't ask why I waited so long, I just did. LOL.

So I called up a girlfriend and asked her to come help me hang the shelves. After all, it is her drill and I've had it since who knows when. A long bloody time that's for sure. She was happy to drill some drywall, so on Saturday that's just what we did. I even bought those cool butterfly hooks that open up inside the wall so the screws don't just slide outta the drywall and send the shelves crashing to the floor (or onto my desk and computer!!). And even though it's not a power tool, we proudly used a level and the shelves are pretty bang on. (They look a little off due to the odd, slanted roofline and the incredibly uneven wall.) It only took about 30 mins to hang the two shelves, so Lord only knows why I waited so long.

Of course, now I need to organize all my crap and get everything up on the shelves. Oh, and clean up all the drywall dust we spilled everywhere. Hmmm...and I should probably do some filing while I'm at it. And put together that desk I got for DBF since I commandeered his old one. Crap. I guess we know how I'm spending my Tuesday night!!

Blue Man Group

Let me just say that this show was SOOOOO COOL!!!!!

Sensory overload at it's peak I think. Bright lights, loud drums, foot stomping, fist pumping, hand clapping and continuous laughter abound.

How To Be a Megastar - Tour 2.0

The night began with a warm up show by DJ Mike Relm. One lonely dude on stage with his equipment....but this man has the fastest DJing hands on the planet I swear. His music (everything from Jimi Hendrix to the Beastie Boys) was all choreographed with clips of popular movies on the three large screens (ie: Resevoir Dogs and Office Space) and as he scratched out the tunes, the visuals scratched along as well. Seriously cool.

After a short intermission, the main event began. The bald, grease-painted blue men took the stage with their large, shiny band. Everything on the band's part of the stage was sparkly, shiny, reflective and lit with an abundance of lights. At the front of the action was the blue men's crazy PVC tubing contraption that prooved to be an amazing instrument throughout the evening.

The entire show is basically a spoof on how to learn all of the different tricks to becoming a full-fledged rock star. A satirical infomercial plays inviting folks to buy the How to be a Megastar package was played, which the blue guys decided to purchase (with the help of a girl from the audience and her credit card). With this rapidly delivered package, the men learned a number of "Rock Concert Movements" that any true megastar needs to know. Each movement brought the audience into the show with participation in head bobs, raising the roof and two arms raised with yelling.

There are marshmallows and paint balls. There is paint flying on the front row. There are audience members brought on stage and covered with chewed up paint. There was a marshmallow "crown" spewed onto the head of an unsuspecting girl. There was a girl in a neon lighted dress. There were blue guys with giant codpieces and huge PVC contraptions. There was a crazy lead guitar player in a plexi box.

There's a lot to take in, and it's too hard to explain. So just know this....this show was totally worth the $50 ticket price. And the next time in Vegas I am seeking out their show at the Venetian because apparently it's even better!
