Home Sweet Home

Yes, I know I've been quiet lately. DBF was away for two whole weeks and I barely had anything to say. The weather was ass pretty much the whole time (by ass I mean gloomy and rainy, no snow or anything) so getting out to the garage for my big organizational plan was difficult. I finally got out there the day before he came home, and although I did make a huge dent in it, there is still tons to do. And I didn't get anywhere with the organizing of the Christmas decorations and camping gear in our storage areas because that had to go in tandem with the garage stuff and I just ran out of time.

I'm heading back to the island the day after tomorrow! Yup, can you believe I've been gone for over four months already?! Of course you can, because you've all been missing me sooooooo much! :) I fly out at a reasonable 3:30 in the afternoon, with a decent flight time and only one short stop in Calgary that gets me into Victoria at 9:30. It will be 1:30am for me, but hopefully I will have slept on the long part of the plane trip so I can stay up and chat (and eat noodles!) with my girls.

Saturday I've arranged a brunch with a bunch of people. I'm only in Victoria the one day to start, so I wanted to see as many people as I could right away. Plus, who doesn't love brunch! After brunch I'll be wrangling someone to take me down to my favorite Starbucks in Cook Street Village and hopefully the weather will be good enough for walking around the park and Dallas Road. After that, my Mom will be coming to get me and taking me up to Nanaimo.

The main reason I chose this time to go home is because it coincides with Mother's Day and Mom's Birthday. We have all kinds of plans...lots of food, appointments, and shopping. We are getting my obligatory Chinese take-out meal for our night in on Saturday when we get back from Victoria (this is our little mother-daughter tradition that has formed over the years...plus I'm dying for the kind of Chinese food I'm used to!). On Sunday, we are booked in for a Mother's Day buffet brunch at one of the local hotels. Monday we have some shopping to do for Mom's hanging basket (I buy her a big one for her birthday every year), and probably new clothes for both of us too... and then either dinner with my Grandpa or Thai food. Tuesday I'm getting my hair done (taking advantage of a hairdresser I know is good, as I haven't found a really decent one here yet) and it's her actual birthday so we are going to The Keg to share lots of yummy appies and stuff. Wednesday I'm getting my eyebrows waxed (haha, haven't found that here yet either!) and either the dinner with Grandpa or Thai food...whatever we didn't get done on Monday.

Somewhere in there I have a couple of friends I want to see, but it's gonna be tough!

Thursday I'm heading back to Victoria, and I've decided to take the train! I was going to bus it back, but I remembered being told the train is really a nice ride and this would be the perfect opportunity to do it. It takes less time than the bus, is more comfy than the bus, more scenic than the bus, probably less smelly than the bus....and actually cheaper than the bus!

That's about as far as I have planned. Tentative plans have been made, but nothing set in stone. Lots of people to see, favorite restaurants and bars to get to, coffee to drink, and pictures to take. I'm sure it will all work itself out.

The only thing that would be better is if DBF and I could actually vacation together. Alas, it just doesn't seem to be in the cards just yet. Booooooooooo!

See you all soon!!
