Foiled by the DVR

That's two weeks in a row that my Sunday night Big Brother didn't record. It says Big Brother in the description, but it's actually 60 Minutes. Boooooo!

Tonight I'll be investigating the stupid TV guide to find out what's going on! How am I supposed to have a slacker lunch hour on Mondays without any Big Brother on the DVR?! Now I'll have to go online to find out who got nominated and that's just not the same thing. I need the car wreck of a nomination ceremony to make it fun. Geeze!

Happy Earth Day!

We did it! Yup, that's right...the couple that survives by our large TV and two laptops...we turned off our lights and our electronics for one hour last night!

I will admit that we were on the phone pretty much the whole time, but the articles I read mainly said to turn out lights and the TV/computer so I figure the little bit of power sucked out by the phone is definitely better than a 50" plasma TV.

Of course, due to no lights on I had to let DBF pee with the door open....haha. Because listening is better than cleaning it up later!

We enjoy candlelight but seem to have gotten away from it as of late, so this was a nice reminder that we don't always need to be power-sucking with lamps and lights and such when it's unnecessary.

Don't get me wrong... we recycle and we now compost because it's a city law and it's an easy step to take. We try to look for energy efficient things to do around the house (compact fluorescent lightbulbs, turning the heat down when not needed, etc), but we don't see ourselves as environmental by any means...which is why I think things like Earth Day are great. It coaxes people to think a little more about the world we live in and maybe do a few extra things we wouldn't normally do. If someone new tries something new each time these things are discussed I think it's a great step in the right direction.

Well at least it's snowing there too!

That's right. It's snowing in BC. and not just in the interior where it's expected, but on the island where all of you that keep making fun of us live. So there!!

Stuck on the Malahat? aw, poor you. Have to shovel snow? aw, poor you. Sad because you can't wear flipflops today? aw, poor you.

That's what you all get for mocking our Halifax weather! A blizzard in March. Take that turkeys!

Bwahahahahaha!

;)

Love you!

Big Brother Update

You may have noticed that I haven't been posting any weekly reviews of the shows lately. That's because DBF is home now, and I won't subject him to my car-wreck of a TV watching choice. He can't stand reality TV (and who can blame him really) and BB is the worst of the bunch for someone that doesn't watch these types of shows to begin with.

Here I found my love of the DVR though. Oh the joy that at pretty much any given time I can click on my list of recorded programs and likely find an episode of BB. Like yesterday, while I ate my lunchtime pita, I was able to lose myself in the show for a good 30 minutes...and I was able to fast-forward through all of the commercials and stupid recaps for a nice, condensed version.

The show actually frustrates me to no end. Maybe that's why I watch?

Adam as HOH is terrible. The guy can't think for himself and is annoying as shit to listen to. At least he took the advice he was given and put up James and Chelsea. I loved them as a couple, but now that everyone is playing for themselves I just want to see them gone. I'm still cheering for Natalie, especially now that Matty is gone... she is playing the game and seems to have finally gotten out of that "love-fog" she was in. Ryan would be my second choice. But everyone else needs to go! Joshua is a snake. Sharon is lame. Sheila is annoying.

OK, this was a terrible recap. More of a rant, but whatever. LOL. It's not like I'm writing a speech for the Emmy's or something!

Edit: I just watched the eviction show during today's lunch, and ding dong the bitch is gone. Thank God. That Chelsea was immature and nuttier than the usual for BB.

On the Ball

Gah, I wish I could have come up with a more creative title!

On the suggestion of my personal trainer, I picked up a fitness ball for my home-office. The chair I sit in is very uncomfortable on my bum, so I was happy to try something new. (I should note that I have shopped around for a new chair but I have yet to find something I really like for less than like $200!)

My trainer suggested I try sitting on the ball at my desk for a few hours a day. It will help me with my posture and maybe help with my lower back problems. As an added bonus, it also works the legs and ab muscles because they are actively helping with balance.

I found one at WallyWorld for only $15 so I figured I'd give it a try. Yesterday I pumped it up to what I thought was pretty full, only to find that it was really soft and left me sitting too low. I was disappointed thinking that I might have to return it for a larger one....but I know that it is the same size as the one I use at the gym, so I kept on pumping it up and sure enough it is fine. It just requires A LOT of pumping up.

I sat on it for about 4 hours yesterday and so far, so good. My bum is thanking me for sure because it is soooooo much softer than my chair. I think I'll make sure to only do 4 hours a day though, because it can eventually strain my back from holding myself up...especially because I don't really notice that I'm using the muscles until they start to hurt...and that can sometimes be too late!

It will be handy for at-home strength training too for days that I can't or don't make it to the gym!
