OK, I'm seriously getting overwhelmed with all of the choices! FH and I are planning a trip to the Dominican for when he gets back from this trip to sea. I have only had one resort recommended to me (thanks Tasha!) and although I would love to go there, it's a couple hundred bucks per person over the amount we want to spend.
I'm wondering if any of you lovely readers have ever been to Punta Cana and have some all-inclusive resort recommendations? We are hoping for at least 4 star, beachfront, a couple of a la carte restaurants, a swim up bar, and a good location near other resorts and touristy shopping.
I thought I had it narrowed down last night, but then FH led me to another site where I've now discovered another dozen or so good choices. Ahhhhhh!
Help! :)

i have been there. the riu resorts. gorgeous.
Hahaha! that is hilarious because we are planning a trip to Punta Cana too! I'm getting SOO confused with all the resorts and reviews and UGGGH!
oK OK OK.... Punta Cana is a biiiit more pricy this year.. Everything is 1000+ then 300+ for tax
I have checked out Puerto Plata (wayyyyyy more pocketbook friendly, just not as pretty... no turquoise sea, no white sandy beach, etc)
Anyway, I stayed in EdenH Real Arena last year... LOVED it! The resort was BRAND SPANKIN NEW when we went there so it's still new and very modern.
I know some people who have also stayed at barcelo bavaro beach and loved it!
Also... When I research the vacations I want to take, I get a little....well a LOT OCD and I am hooked on various websites:
To look at/compare prices:
- Redtag.ca
- i2000
- selloffvacations.com
To look at reviews (and REAL pictures, not professional photographer pictures of the resorts)
- Tripadvisor.com (HUGE help, but take a lot of the poor reviews with a grain of salt...)
Dominican Travel forum to get tips/talk about/learn about the area:
http://debsdrtravels.proboards47.com/index.cgi
Or to get just basic information on a very busy site:
http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com/
last but not least, you can also consider Cuba. Varadero, Cuba has some of the most AMAAAAAAZING Beaches.
There.
Can you tell I am just a teensy bit obsessed.
I could recommend other resorts in Mexico, Jamacia or Cuba if you are interested :)
tripadvisor.com is good but regardless, you'll see negative reviews.
