I have a few signature treats that I tend to make every year now...my Nanaimo Bars in particular are finally starting to look and taste just like my Mom's. :) I may not make those this year though because they are hard to transport without them getting all melty and squishy. I want to make a few things that I can bring home to Victoria, as well as share with our friends here.
I'm thinking of making some kind of almond bark...I have a few interesting combinations in mind. Probably also a batch or two of butter tarts because those are easy and DBF's favorite. I usually do whipped shortbread too...so maybe a batch of that because my Mom loves it and if I pack it in a tin it will do fine in my suitcase. I want to do baskets for a few of the neighbors that have been good to me when I'm here alone so I think I'll dig out my recipes and see what strikes my fancy tonight.
What I'd like to know is if any of you have some fun ideas that you've come across or that you always do that you would like to share? I saw Carolyn had all kinds of neat stuff from her baking exchange. And I just know someone must have a great recipe for gingerbread men, or some other festive cookies/bars/balls that we should all know about.
Bring em on!

I made a peppermint bark a couple of years ago with crushed candy canes...it was pretty good!!!
There are a million things that I usually make though most of them should be refrigerated...my faves are chocolate pb balls, marshmallow squares (shortbread bottom with fluffy pink marshmallow top), caramel toffee squares (shortbread bottom, caramel centre, chocolate drizzled on top), rice krispie squares with jujubes (though I want to try carolyns mars bar version!!), oh henry squares...and...I think that's it...I usually make cherry cake as well...if you want any recipes I will send you them!!!
OH And toblerone fudge...drool
I just saw in the store white chocolate bark with dried cranberries and pistachios :)
we make white chocolate peppermint popcorn and it's always a hit.
Air pop popcorn, drizzle with melted white chocolate and toss with crushed candycanes. YUM!
I make plain old almond bark. Along about the middle of November FIL starts "bark"ing at me every time he sees me. All he wants for Xmas is a big tin of bark just for him.
I don't usually go all that crazy - there is always so much food around this time of year! However, I do usually make Skor Shortbread and Mars Bars Rice Krispie Squares.
How come I've never had any kind of "bark" before???
I've just got the "requests" from my boss, "So when are you going to bring in your xmas treats?" and hubby just came home yesterday and said, "Everyone at work wants to know when you're going to make your xmas cookies."
Greeeeeeat! I was secretly trying to ignore that this year! I suppose I better crack out the recipes! Frig, I'm gonna be screwed then, you watch!
I always make iced cut out sugar cookies... you know the fancy Martha Stewart kind. They are definitely my specialty and they are expected at this point.
I also make a molasses cookie that is drizzled with icing (kind of a big gingersnap). They are easy and use the same icing as the sugar cookies and kind of balance out the work load a bit.
This year I'm trying all sort of new stuff... caramel corn, maybe a dark & white chocolate bark, and I just finished dipping candy cane oreo type cookies in white chocolate. I'll probably post all the recipes up on my blog in the next week or so.
